"On Amendment of Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine "On Advertising"

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has already registered alternative draft laws N 4184 , N 4184-2, N 4184-3 introduced respectively by People's Deputies Yu.Artemenko, L.Hrach and L.Myrymskiy.

The draft suggests determining that advertising on Ukrainian territory should be distributed in Ukrainian. Trademarks for goods and services protected by Ukrainian legislation should be distributed in advertising in their original language.

According to the current wording of the Law of Ukraine "On Advertising", properly registered trademarks for goods and services, logotypes may be provided in their original language, but in this case foreign-language trademarks for goods and services, logotypes should be dubbed in Ukrainian.

These amendments will save funds of subjects of entrepreneurial activity ordering advertising at the expense of reducing advertising space.

Apart from that, the draft will help avoiding confusions emerging when foreign-language logotypes are dubbed in Ukrainian. This is explained by the fact that translation of any logotype may have analogous logotype in Ukrainian, which is registered according to the procedure set forth by the legislation.
