"On Amendment of Some Laws of Ukraine Related to Customs Tariffs for Products of Mechanical Engineering"

The draft suggests raising the rate of import duty for multiroll screw compressors from 5% to 20% of the customs value of the goods.

Apart from that, the draft envisages exempting from import duty component parts to multiroll screw compressors (goods nomenclature under the code 8414807100) during their import to Ukraine's customs territory upon consent of the Ministry for Industrial Policy of Ukraine and upon an application from the Chief Enterprise on scientific-technical provision in the field: compressing equipment.

The suggested raise of rate will protect domestic commodity producers and contribute to growing sale volumes of respective products.

At the same time the suggested amendments and respectively raise of import duty rates do not meet requirements of Article XXVIIIbis of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994, which establishes that tariffs and other measures applied by a country in order to protect domestic production, should be decreased and if possible cancelled due to negotiations with other member-countries.
